Against the backdrop of a brisk Sunny Sunday afternoon and a crowd that would dwarf many a GP, the scene was set for an epic battle on the most historic Motocross venue in the UK.

With a host of international and factory teams in attendance, just who would lift their game to fend of the foreign invaders.

The writing was on the wall as the clock stopped for Qualification in the MX1 class – 3rd Martin Barr Proppa.com KTM / 4th Sean Simpson LS Motors Honda / 6th Graeme Red Bull Honda.

Both Barr and Irwin capitalised on making good on their weekly sessions training with the Holshot Race Gate, running top five at the end of lap one, Martin chased down ex World Champion, Steve Ramon for third position before himself making a crash with only two laps remaining. Graeme finished an incredible 6th , just ahead of fellow Risk Racing Athlete, Shaun Simpson who fought back from a fist lap disaster to claim 7th at the flag.

Race two had all three riders start well inside the top six, Shaun lead the trio home with a fine 4th, with Martin finishing a strong 5th position, Graeme recovered well from a lap three crash to score 10th across the line.

Martin Barr: “Things started off pretty good with a third in qualifying, which was great considering the line-up. In the first I was going really well, riding good and got up to fourth. I was trying to push for a pass on Ramon and the back end stepped out and launched me over the bars. I went down pretty hard, so I had to DNF that one. In the second race I got the hole shot, which is brilliant because I’m on a 350 against factory bikes and having such a long start straight. I ended up fifth which wasn’t so bad, but it could’ve been a lot better.”

Defending British MX2 Champion, Zach Osborne Qualified 2nd behind the returning Brit,Tommy Searle, who it must be said was in devastating fourm all day aboard his Pr- -Circuit prepped CLS Kawasaki.

Zach gated 3rd in race one , although the your hard charging American was making back ground on the leaders the race was cut short, running just 12 minutes due to a track incident, Zach positioned 6th in Moto one.

In determined mood, Zach gated top three before setting after Tommy, Zach recorded a fine second place which was good enough for 4th Overall the day and more importantly, he got some track time with some of the top GP contenders which he will bang bars with throughout the season.

The next stop is Round Two of the British Championship this coming weekend at Canada Heights – Good Luck to all.Click to view slideshow.

GAME ON !
Congratulations to all Risk Racing Supported Athletes for your efforts in Round One of the MAXXIS, British Championships last weekend at Little Silver, in the South of England.
Cold as it was, the weather was kind and the spectacular hillside circuit provided some extremely close racing in both MX1 and MX2 classes.
Three different Moto winners in the MX1 class was testimony to just how competitive the racing is going to be throughout the forthcoming months – but when the last wheel stopped turning, it was the “Flying Scottsman” Shaun Simpson LS Honda who topped the podium despite not taking a Moto win throughout the day, Shaun was more than content posting a brace of three 2nd place finishes to earn his first overall podium result of 2011.
Fellow Risk Racing supported athletes Graham Irwin and Gordon Crockard put in a good days work with a 6th and 7th overall finish respectively.
In the MX2 class, defending champion Zach Osborne started the defence of his crown in commanding style winning the first two Motos convincingly; unfortunately his Cotsworth Dixon Yamaha succumbed to mechanical failure in the final race of the day posting Zach 4th in the points standing after the 1st round.
New signing Mel Pocock, gelled well with his new Relentless Suzuki by TAS the youngster made good use of his first race holeshot to finish a strong 6th place just behind the Grand Prix regulars, Jake Nichols and Mattis Karro. The enthusiastic Suzuki rider was happy enough posting 7th overall with this being his first competitive ride under the TAS awning.

For the 2011 AMA Supercross season Risk Racing has teamed up with Monster Energy / PRO CIRCUIT / KAWASAKI and TROY LEE DESIGNS / LUCAS OILS / HONDA. These two premier teams are completely dominating the Holeshots and the race wins in the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250cc Championship series.

The proof is in the results. So far in the 2011 250cc season we have seen a total 6 heat races and 3 main events. Of those races, Risk Racing sponsored riders have won nearly every single Holeshot and race win.

The credit goes to a winning combination of great teams, incredibly talented riders, and of course to training with the Risk Racing Holeshot Practice Starting Gate. Risk Racing is honored and excited to be working with teams and riders of such caliber. “Training with a real gate can make a massive impact with results, even for these top level pro riders,” comments James Burry from Risk Racing. “Watching the races and seeing one of our sponsored riders nab a holeshot is always fun. Seeing them dominate almost every Holeshot and win is exhilarating.”

Heat 1 from the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles this past weekend took “nabbing a Holeshot” to the next level. It looked like text-book Holeshot technique from both teams using the Risk Racing Holeshot Gate. The first corner was nothing but Pro Circuit and TLD riders as they competed for the first corner and overall win. Ultimately, TLD rider Cole Seely would steal the night coming out on top with the main event win.

James Burry commented about the results “Seeing the impact of our relationship with these teams is proof to me that what we are doing here at Risk Racing is working. It is my hope that our products are creating equal results for amateur racers across the globe.”

Risk Racing and Pro Circuit Team up for 2011

Risk Racing is proud to announce their new relationship with Mitch Payton and the entire team at Pro Circuit. All the rides are training with the Risk Racing Holeshot Practice Starting Gate. The effects are evident. So far the Pro Circuit West Coast Supercross riders, Josh Hansen, Broc Tickle and Tyla Rattray are dominating not only the holeshots but also the podium. The proof of a good start is in their overall results. At Anaheim 1 they swept the podium and at Phoenix they captured the top two spots. Pro Circuit is making a good habit of going from Holeshot to win.

It is exciting to everyone at Risk Racing to be a part of such an amazing team and we look forward to watching far more holeshots and wins from the team in green.

Martin Barr wins Belfast Supercross

Well done Future West and congratulations to Martin Barr on winning the British Final in commanding style, had young Martin not stalled his immaculately dialled in Relentless / TAS Suzuki. Notwithstanding the internal politics casting any cloud over Martins return to race at the star studded Belfast event, the “Turkmiester” and crew of technical Boffins burnt the midnight oil (Check the Overtime Bill Phillip) in order to provide Marty with the best possible package available. And Boy did it work! Confidence in abundance, I watched Marty attack the Dirt Works prepared circuit throughout the Saturday afternoon practice sessions – it was obvious of his intentions even at that point in the proceedings. Blistering fast reactions from Martin on the TAS prepared machinery were a formidable pairing as Gate to Flag heat wins became order of the evening, taking victories in both British Open and SX2 International qualification races with a devastating display of highly skilled controlled aggressive racing. Winning the British Open Final was another Marty Barr Holshot to flag event – no Belfast bookie would have taken a bet against Barr in the SX2 Pro race. Unfortunately Martin stalled his Relentless / TAS Suzuki while leading his final race of the evening, he got back into the race and scored 4th at the flag, but it was Adam Chatfield who whipped it large at the chequered flag. Martin will move to the MX1 Class in 2011 on KTM Machinery – Risk Racing Europe has big plans for Martin next season – watch this space!

World Championship Motocross

Round 11

Belgium

“Holeshot Herlings” yet again capitalised on perfecting two great starts, the KTM mounted teenage sensation carded 3-1- results in the Belgium sand, which earned Jeffery 2nd Overall in the GP.

Herlings was in fine from throughout the weekend, chasing Ken Roczen home during the Saturday Qualification Moto, fellow Risk Racing supported Athlete, Shaun Simpson filled out the podium in third place.

As expected, the spectator numbers were at a premium in Belgium; this new circuit is part of a massive Extreme sports complex, complete with all the facilities to cope with GP events.

As the gate dropped for Moto One, it was the KTM duo of Marvin Musquin and Herlings that lead the field around the jump filled Belgium sand circuit.

Herlings was visibly the faster and on lap four he made his move and began to pull out a lead, although the ever changing lines caught him out two laps later, a small mistake that let Musquin and Roczen through – and that was the order in which they crossed the finish line.

Simpson had a strong ride for 5th, while Zach Osborne was having a tough time, posting 17th – the track was very physically demanding and Zach was still in pretty bad shape following a hefty crash at the British Championship round the weekend previous.

Herlings Blitzed the Holeshot in race two, determined to make amends for the first Moto’s mistake, Jeffery held of the challenge from Roczen and won the Moto with a seven second gap.

Simpson had another decent race to finish 7th, while Zach blocked out the pain in his back and posted a 10th place finish for his brave efforts.

Four Grand Prix remain to round out the 2010 series; Herlings finds himself in a remarkable 4th position in the points table in his rookie season.

Shaun and Zach rank 5th and 6th respectively, Shaun has suffered from a mystery virus which saps his energy since March, but following tests is slowly making progress with his race fitness program.

With three Rounds remaining of the 2010 , Red Bull – Pro Nationals, Martin Barr is inching ever closer to that coveted Number One Plate!

The ever smiling Irishman capitalised on two great starts, to take another double win against a star studded MX2 field.

Second in the Points table, Elliott Banks – Browne, had no answer for the fast, PAR Honda mounted Barr, who has dominated four of the six events thus far.

Both MX1 and MX2 classes run in the same Moto at the Red Bull Nationals, so getting a good gate on the smaller MX2 machine is paramount.

“I practice with my Risk Racing Holeshot Gate every time I go riding, my results are always better when I get out of the gate well , so yes, the Holeshot Gate is helping my results for sure” Quipped Marty

Jeffery Herlings KTM , was in fine tune around the tough Swedish GP circuit this weekend, taking yet another podium result, by way of posting 2nd and 4th place results.

The fifteen year old was second overall behind French ace, Steven Frossard, who seems to have found extra speed since his Kawasaki Team have received engine support from Pro –Circuit in the USA.

Ex World BMX Champion, Gautier Paulin rode the wheels of his Yamaha in the second Moto , racing through a star studded pack to claim third place in the race and third in the GP overall results.

It was a tough day for the other Risk Racing Europe supported athletes.

Shaun Simpson blitzed the Holeshot in Moto one, before being bumped of the track by the hard charging Frossard on lap nine.

In an official announcement from KTM, it has been made public that the flying Scott has been suffering from a mystery ailment, which has been causing him to lose strength after ten minutes racing since mid April.

“Man its so frustrating, at the ten minute mark I just hit a wall and can hardly hold on – we have a three week break and I intend to us this time to get to the bottom of what is causing this problem”” said the dejected Simpson.

Zach Osborne, Cotsworth Yamaha , had a bad day in the office, the young American was not enjoying the circuit at all, Zach crashed out of the qualification Moto on Saturday afternoon.

Boxed in , due to bad gate selection, Zach struggled during the opening laps of both races, although he recovered sufficianty to record 7th Overall in the GP and hold his 6th place in the World Championship points table.

In the Womans GP , Irelands, Natalie Kane continued to race through her current wrist injury , Natalie cuts off the cast on her wrist come the weekend and then has another one fitted on the following Monday.

Let’s hope that with a three week break in the Grand Prix schedule, Natalie can recover and finish the last two GP of the season in good health.
